Physical Education

Physical Education, practised in a safe and supportive environment, can make a vital and unique contribution to a pupil's physical development and well-being.

Every pupil learns to explore and control body movement within a wide range of physical activities, while developing both physical and social skills under the guidance of a specialist PE teacher, supported by a Games Coach with an honours degree in Sports Science.

Our principal aims in Physical Education are to:

  • develop a range of physical skills.
  • develop stamina and strength.
  • express ideas in dance form.
  • develop an appreciation of fair play, honest competition and good sportsmanship.
  • develop an appreciation of the aesthetic qualities of movement.
  • learn how to co-operate with each other and work successfully in pairs, groups and teams.
  • develop physical and mental co-ordination, self control and confidence.
  • develop self-confidence through the understanding of one's own capabilities and limitations.
  • provide opportunities for a wide experience of all physical activities in the National Curriculum.
  • motivate each child so that he/she retains a lifelong interest in all aspects of Physical Education and recognise the importance of living and maintaining a healthy life.

Sport and games are an integral feature of life at St. Margaret's School and all pupils have the opportunity to participate.

Excellent facilities are provided for traditional team games and for other sports, so that pupils can have a wide choice and the opportunity to excel in their chosen sports. In addition to on-site playing fields and a games field of seven acres within close proximity of the school, the school has two well-equipped Sports Halls, which cater for various indoor sports.
