Geography is a foundation subject
within the National Curriculum. It encourages
pupils to acquire and develop skills and knowledge
necessary to appreciate and understand the world
in which they live. The Geography Curriculum
is sub-divided in Key Stages 1 (Pre-preparatory)
and 2 (Preparatory) and is organised into levels
of increasing challenge and acquisition of geographical
skills.
It is our aim to instil in pupils
a greater awareness and respect for the world
and its inhabitants, broadening their knowledge
and understanding of the interdependence of
society and the natural environment.
At Key Stage 1, pupils investigate
the human and physical Geography of the local
area and the wider world, developing their ability
to observe, think about, and question the processes
that take place in the environment. At Key Stage
2 (Preparatory) the pupils investigate a broader
variety of places, people and environments,
developing a range of investigative and problem-solving
skills both inside and outside the classroom.
They also find out more about their responsibility
for the sustainable development of the world
and its resources.
Observation, recording, presentation,
analysis and interpretation are skills developed
through topic work and first-hand experience
and investigation These are supplemented using
examples taken from the local, national and
global environment. Annual Field Trips are arranged
for all pupils.
