Art

Art plays an important part in the curriculum.

We seek to provide a wide variety of experiences in Art, using different media to enable pupils to explore imaginatively and to respond to the world around them. We help them to develop and communicate their ideas and appreciate different kinds of art across cultures, times and styles. We encourage children to develop their confidence and artistic skills and processes.

We believe that art can enhance other areas of the curriculum and enable children to express their individuality. Throughout the school you can see examples of pupil's creative and imaginative response to art.

Our aims in Art are to:

  • foster the individual child's creative ability and to develop the technical skills necessary to achieve their full potential.
  • help children explore the world at first hand using all their senses and experimentation and so gain knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live.
  • develop confidence, value and pleasure in Art.
  • develop children's aesthetic awareness and enable them to make informed judgements about Art.
  • enable the children to express their own ideas, feelings, thoughts and experiences in the form of Art.
  • develop children's design capability.
  • develop children's ability to value the contribution made by other artists, craft-workers and designers and respond critically and imaginatively to ideas, images and objects of many kinds and from many cultures.
